RIST Forum appoints new directors

The RIST Forum has appointed its new directors, following on from the AGM at the Marina del Rey Marriott, Los Angeles. The forum promotes an interoperable standard, Reliable Internet Stream Transport (RIST) for transporting live video over unmanaged IP networks. Bringing together industry experts to implement a standards-based, open solution for secure, low-latency live video.

RIST members met at the AGM for a review of 2019, as well as to discuss plans for 2020 and vote on roles within the forum. Arielle Slama, senior product marketing manager at Net Insight, and Suzana Brady, vice president of sales at Cobalt Digital, were voted to remain as co-chairs. The group’s directors are as follows: Paul Atwell, president at Media Transport Solutions, Kieran Kunhya, CEO at Open Broadcast Systems, Adi Rozenberg, co-founder at VideoFlow, and John Wastcoat, SVP alliances and marketing at Zixi. Jacob Kinsey, senior associate director at Cobalt Digital, will maintain the position of treasurer. The members will continue to facilitate the forum’s key objective - a global adoption of interoperable RIST protocol, led by Ciro Noronha, executive VP of engineering at Cobalt Digital, and RIST Forum president.

RIST is designed to transport all video over the Internet, but is mainly used for news and sports contribution, remote production, affiliate distribution and primary distribution. With RIST, interoperability is achieved through a framework of clear specifications, leaving vendors a level of flexibility to innovate within their own implementations.

Ciro Noronha, RIST Forum president, said: “RIST specs are detailed enough to ensure that two different implementations will be interoperable. Our focus for 2020 is to demonstrate this ground-breaking multi-vendor approach wherever we can. Hosting RIST plug-fests and demos where vendors can experience and verify the interoperability for themselves, whilst getting a sense of the potential for user innovation – the best of both worlds.”

The RIST Forum continues to showcase its commitment to contribution and distribution solutions, participating in events throughout 2020. NAB Show is the next key conference for the group, where RIST members will be available for discussion in the Future of Delivery Zone. RIST directors will participate in a full programme of panel debates and presentations during the show.
