Norigin Media has expanded its managed OTT linear-TV transcoding services, Cloudncoder, to offer support for broadcast delivery. This will allow pay-tv operators in Scandinavia to use Norigin's capture and transcoding headend as a converged cloud origin solution. Cloudncoder recently also successfully conducted 4K trials with a Norwegian operator.
Pay-TV operators across Europe are deploying new generations of hybrid set-top-boxes and Android based STBs bridging the gap between traditional broadcast and OTT services. These operators can greatly benefit from a converged linear TV headend platform that cater for DVB, IPTV and OTT distribution. Achieving such a technical convergence often requires costly upgrades to existing TV and video platforms. Norigin’s expansion to support broadcast from the existing headend provides a much needed affordable converged option to such complex upgrade processes. The platform will support conditional access (CAS) and digital rights management (DRM) integrations chosen by the PayTV operator.
“We decided to add broadcast to our managed OTT streaming platform since we believe that operators should not focus on expanding outdated TV platforms," said Norigin Media CEO, Ajey Anand. "This solution will also provide a unified and converged linear TV platform for all Nordic operators to use and benefit from. The converged broadcast and OTT solution has been tested on the latest generation of 4K HDR Android TV hybrid boxes.“
Cloudncoder's managed OTT headend is already able to capture all European satellite signals and has access to all Scandinavian linear feeds via fibre. This unified technical platform for operators include linear TV signal acquisition and encoding to reduce costs of infrastructure and operations.
